We're a Gold Coast based 3 piece band playing a mix of original folk acoustic along with rootsy traditional heritage music. We are passionate about keeping Australiana music alive and presenting it in a way that has wide appeal for a whole new generation.
We are seasoned professionals, our band is in its 28th year. Unseen work as it is..........we probably do more 5 star corporporate "Ambassador" gigs than any band in the country. We are actively creating a more public face and industry presence.
Our new album "Shedding My Skin" produced inconjunction with Michael Fix, was released in Dec 2010. Also last year we put out an EP which we launched at the Gympie Muster Festival in August. Since then we've released several radio singles, our latest 'Shedding My Skin' the title track, has just come out & is creating quite a lot of interest. On the album, 7 of the 11 tracks are original, 2 are original arrangments of traditional songs and one is our take of an '80's Silly Wizard song and lastly our version of a song writen by Graeme Connors & Mike Kerin.
We are pleased to say we've been nominated in the Queensland Music Awards ( announced Aug '11), we won a Golden Fiddle Award during the Country Music Festival in Tamworth in January where we had three nominations, best band, best CD & best composition. This was a follow up on the Australian Songwriters Awards in Dec where we had a top 10 in the all genre instrumental category. In February we picked up 'Best National Band' at the Victorian Country Music Awards. We feel this is the best album we have done so far during our career and we are very pleased with the response its getting.
Along with corporate work our performance is grounded firmly in the community. We book halls and stage our own events, we're very popular for bushdance wedding receptions and parties and we just love getting out in the amoung the community and playing music festivals.
Last year we were honoured to be offered a short tour as support band for legendary folk rocker John Schumann (Redgum/Only19)
Here are some comments from John.

Legendary Australina Folk Rocker
Founder of the band Redgum
Writer of the iconic song "I Was Only 19"
I heard about the Leaping Lizards back in the 1980's when touring through the region with Redgum. I was aware of their long history in Queensland, and I'd heard they were good but, frankly, I wasn't too fussed about trying to catch up with them. While I respected the bushband genre, bands resplendent in vests and corked hats singing songs about sheep, cows and convicts were not exactly my cup of tea.
However, in January 2010 I got to work with them and I was surprised and impressed. This lot are the real deal: they work hard, they play well, they rehearse hard and they take their craft and their material seriously.
The Lizards have a way of singing old and well known songs that bring them to life - effortlessly. Perhaps for the first time I stopped and listened and realised just how important these songs are to our musical heritage.
But why, after all these years, was it that the Leaping Lizards brought me to this awakening? I think it was because they deliver their songs in unselfconscious Australian accents - unforced, non colonial. It was a relief and a pleasure.
On Anzac weekend 2010, The Leaping Lizards played with my band the Vagabond Crew. They played brillliantly and were very much appreciated by our audiences. In fact, they were a hard act to follow! The Vagabond Crew all remarked what good singers and players the Leaping Lizards are - high praise indeed from my mob!
We would work with the Lizards again in a heartbeat. Thats all that needs to be said.
